ae the growing desire among the Welsh to become more familiar with the English language is one of the hopeful signs of the times. For each of our fellow citizens who understood English at the beginning of this century, we probably wouldn't be wrong in saying that there are scores if not hundreds who don't understand it now. On the other hand, there are greater numbers than thought of the English who visit our country during the summer months making a considerable effort to learn Welsh.
But it is clear that no one can master a foreign language without the help of dictionaries. It cannot be said that the different Dictionaries that are now on the field are practical because they contain thousands of words that have never been used, and may never be used; and that, of course, magnifies the work, until it causes it to be out of reach of the low-grade class. This is a practical cheap dictionary for the many who can't train to get more.
But although many of the obsolete words have been left out, it still includes all words that are in common use when speaking and writing.
Great care has been taken in reading the leaflet, so that it is trusted that there is not a single error worth noting.
